Bug Hotel

Repurposed Wood, found Wood, aluminium flat plate connectors and bolts
2025, North Garden, Hackney Wick, London

Deigned the Bug Hotel as to repurpose the wood used by the previous resident artist, rescuing these solid blocks of wood from going into the skip.

The ReRooted Program—delivered by Arbeit Studios in partnership with the LLDC—champions ecology, sustainability, and the public realm. Developed during the four-month program, my project, 'Let’s Be Eco Logical!', culminated in two art commissions for the North Garden in Hackney Wick.

‘The Bug Hotel’ is an insect refuge built entirely from reclaimed timber—offcuts salvaged from the previous artist in residence’s work, rescuing it from the landfill.
It anchors a nascent butterfly garden that will flourish next spring, nourished by native seed “bombs” produced during a Hackney Herbal workshop in September 2024. Together, the habitat and garden give tangible form to circular economy principles and invite visitors to reflect on urban biodiversity.
